Many cameras have inexpensive sensors, which have poor dynamic range. Additionally, many videos are shot in poor lighting conditions. In either case, the quality of the video can be improved by adjusting the lighting in the video. Ikena has an advanced contrast algorithm that allows details to be “pulled” from dark videos, called “contrast-limited adaptive histogram equalization.”
This algorithm uses both automatic contrast adjustment, which combines exposure information from multiple frames of information. This contrast algorithm, combined with MotionDSP’s super-resolution algorithm, together create an output image that has the image quality comparable to images created with a longer exposure time. This has the effect of both suppressing noise, and revealing new detail within the image/video. Ikena also has a standard set of tools for manual light and contrast adjustment, using shadows/highlights, gamma, color saturation, and color temperature.
